"Your voice, your eyes," Paul Eluard
Your voice, your eyes
your hands, your lips
Our silences, our words
Light that goes
light that returns
A single smile between us both
In quest of knowledge
I watched night create day
while we seemed unchanged
beloved of all, beloved of one alone
your mouth silently promised to be happy
Away, away, says hate
never, never, says love
A caress leads us from our childhood
Increasingly I see the human form
as a lover’s dialogue
The heart has but one mouth
Everything ordered by chance
All words without aforethought
Sentiments adrift
Men roam the city
A glance, a word
Because I love you
Everything moves
To live, only advance!
Aim straight for those you love
I went towards you, endlessly towards the light
If you smile, it is to enfold me all the better
The rays of your arms pierce the mist

Eluard's facial and verbal descriptions of people allude to an extreme interest in the complexities of man. The speaker details a person's eyes, voice, and other functions. These details display the speaker's personal feelings regarding other people. The speaker has an incredible admiration for others in all of their individuality. This speaker's fanciful diction and facial descriptions refers to the speaker's true respect for the individuality of man.
ReplyDeleteEluard's elegant and descriptive diction examplafies relationships. "Away, away, says hate never, never, says love," illistrates how when you hate someone you want them to go away but when you love someone you never wnat them to leave. Also when you love someone life gets better and you live "Because I love you
ReplyDeleteEverything moves." This is a very elegant poem of what a relationships consists of. Overall a great poem.
Yeah good poem, really romantic. The girl is pretty hot :)
ReplyDeleteFrom the beginning the poem is very romantic. The first lines are descriping things between each other and their connection. My favorite line is "A single smile between us both." Almost like saying they are one person.
