"Otherwise," Jane Kenyon

  1. This poem really causes the reader to relate the experiences of his/her daily life to the poem. I really enjoy the line "I ate cereal, sweet milk, ripe, flawless peach" because the imagery created makes my mouth water and my stomach grumble. Also, the very vague ideas of paintings on the walls and a table with candlesticks creates an impersonal account of a day, which I feel brings it closer to more readers.
